kingston, jamaica, part 2

My second trip to Kingston totally made sense. I got a better picture of the city, got to see a couple more neighborhoods, and took a bunch of pictures of course. In a way I have a love/hate relationship with Kingston, my mood there is up and down too ... for example, my last day there sucked, I spent all day inside staring at the computer (kingston is not a city where you just walk around and make friends with locals) - but than that night I hung out some serious gangsters, took pictures of guns and stuff, I can't go into details here. But at the end of the night no one could take the smile off my face.
In Kingston, if the police catch you with a gun, they will most likely kill you on the spot without making an effort to arrest you. So the fact that these guys were letting me shoot them with guns meant much more than just good photo material. Trust and respect.
In the end, it's not all about taking pictures, that part you can learn, for me the stories are equally important. Here I mean the stories that I'll tell to my grandchildren when I'm 90.

here are some non-guns Kingston images from my latest trip:

What in the world are they spraying?

back in nyc

Monday, August 8, 2011

I was driving around Kingston yesterday with two friends, and cops stopped us at the checkpoint at the entrance to the neighborhood of TIVOLI GARDENS; the cop pointed his M16 at the car, we got out, hands on the hood, they searched us, searched the vehicle, and of course found NOTHING. Then the main cop started writing my friend a ticket (??? later we found out it was for not wearing a seat belt), and my friend asked him "Do I look like a criminal?", "Why are you writing me a ticket man ?" .... no yelling, no cursing, nothing like that. They kept us there for over half an hour, when the police truck came. I thought it was the next shift, but nope, they handcuffed my friend, put him on the truck and took him to the station. I couldn't believe what was happening, I called my friend I am staying with to come meet us at the police station, the arrested guy's wife and baby boy came too, so we all spent the next two hours at the police station, trying to get him out ...... his mother finally brought some papers, the local pastor showed up, so after arranging the court date, they let him go. pure injustice.

skin bleaching

here's an article on skin bleaching in jamaica

you can see a lot of people with white cream on their faces around Kingston, at first I though it was a sun block or something, but then they told me it's bleaching creme.
You can recognize 'bleachers' by the color of their skin, it's usually reddish, check this out:

off to Kingston, Jamaica tomorrow

see you when I see you!

so I think

thinking is the enemy. education is evil. half your life you spend learning things that you would want to unlearn the other half of your life. in my opinion the point is to make a full circle, and follow your instincts. It's the only way to be happy.
