Obviously the hotel wasn't open anymore. We later found out what the story was - some local gangster (obviously with political ties) leased the hotel a couple of years ago, without any intention of paying the lease. After two years, when his lease expired, instead of paying what he owed, he brought a construction crew that spent a month dismantling the hotel (everyone in the area knew what was going on but of course the police never intervened) ... they took out EVERYTHING, windows, doors, pipes, every possible piece of metal and sold it as scrap. They even destroyed the balconies. So now the building is beyond repair ...
