city of Bor, Serbia, August 2010

Bor is a city in eastern Serbia which revolves around one of Europe's biggest copper mines, once the pride of ex-Yugoslavian industry. In the 1990s, during the time of sanctions on Serbia, production in this mine dropped significantly and many people left the area. Outdated technology and the fact that the copper melting plant is in the center of the city have made Bor one of the most polluted cities in the Balkans, with the highest level of sulphur-dioxide (SO2) concentration in Europe.

the gypsy hole

Not only do you not have to chase after images, sometimes you don't even have to leave your bedroom ...
I noticed this hole in the wall down my block a few days ago, and then yesterday I noticed Gypsies going in and out of it. Turns out it's a property waiting to be renovated. Here is the story ---- A while ago, the Gypsies broke in and started squatting there, but police kicked them out and put a chain on the gate. Now they broke a hole in the wall and made their way back in.
I passed by the hole and looked in, and it looks like a garbage dump in there. I don't get it if they are living in there, you would think it would be a little cleaner. But nope.

Here we go - they keep coming, and I keep sniping :)
