MUAY THAI, channel 7 fights, bangkok

No story about Bangkok is complete without Muay Thai, one of the deadliest martial arts, so I finally forced myself to go and see some fights (I know it's the cold season in Thailand right now, but hey, it's still too hot and humid for me) .... there are a couple of boxing stadiums here in Bangkok, the most famous LUMPINI and RAJDAMNOEN, but they charge foreigners ridiculously high entrance fees, and then they keep you separated from locals. I hate being discriminated like that, no no way.
So I went to the CHANNEL 7 STADIUM, where fights are free, and the crowd is mostly locals.
I got a great seat right next to the ring ----- unfortunately, videotaping wasn't allowed (because the fights were televised), so I just had to do it :)

The first fight was so so ....

The second one was amazing, the guy wearing the blue trunks got knocked down with an elbow to the head, but came back and won. He had a heart of a lion and strength of a bulldozer.

we took a day trip to AYUTTHAYA, ancient capital of Thailand, today, and it was very very boring. But my daughter got to ride an elephant, so it was all worth it. We also spotted a dragon ....

KLONG TOEI slums, bangkok

My wife's family friend took me to these weird slums along an (abandoned?) railroad track, different world than the rest of Bangkok. It looked very shady but people were (as usual here) very friendly. The only thing they wouldn't let me shoot was a bunch of people gambling, money changing hands. Then at one point I went ahead to shoot something and when I turned around, my 'guide' was gone ..... I countinued shooting, and after a couple of minutes he re-appeared. We kept walking, shooting, no problem at all.
While driving back home I told him we should go back there tomorrow, but he said it wouldn't be such a good idea, because he was pulled aside by the slum boss, who asked him what we were doing there, why I was shooting. Apparently the slum is all gang controlled. So showing up there two days in a row would make some people very nervous.

So as I said before, the club owner gave total access, which included the ladies room, that's also used as the changing room for the club girls. All good, got some decent shots, but I don't think I'll go there again. I'd love to go into the subject deeper, go to girls houses maybe, see how they live, what their normal lives are ---- but none of them speaks a word of English! It's impossible to communicate, I first have to learn some Thai, and that will take some time.



There was this woman in the ladies room selling all kinds of makeup and shit, and she brought her daughter with her. Little girl, maybe my daughter's age. I didn't want to take pictures of her or film her in that environment (not the right place for a kid to grow up) - - she had this cute little bunny she was feeding milk with a syringe ....
